Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT): CCPT is an intervention for children who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral and relational disorders. CCPT utilizes play, the natural language of children, and the therapeutic relationship to provide a safe, consistent therapeutic environment in which a child can experience full acceptance, empathy, and understanding from the counselor and process inner experiences and feelings through play and symbols. The overarching goal of CCPT is to unleash the child’s potential to move toward integration and self-enhancing ways of being. CCPT strives to support the following skills:

Learn to respect themselves
Learn their feelings are acceptable
Learn to express their feelings responsibly
Learn to assume responsibility for themselves
Learn to be creative in confronting problems
Learn self-control and self-direction
Learn to gradually accept themselves
Learn to make choices and be responsible for their choices

Synergetic Play Therapy ™ : Synergetic Play Therapy is a researched-informed model of play therapy based on nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity. Its primary play therapy influences are Child-Centered, Experiential, and Gestalt theories.

Although Synergetic Play Therapy is a model of play therapy, it’s also referred to as a way of being in relationship with self and others. It’s an all-encompassing paradigm that can be applied to any facet of life, and subsequently any model of play therapy can be applied to it or vice versa. Synergetic Play Therapy is both non-directive and directive in its application.

Synergetic Play Therapy facilitates children’s ability to: build frustration tolerance, increase attention span, develop impulse control, learn, communicate, process, grow, create, problem solve, foster confidence, and meet their ultimate potential.

Welcome! At the root of my work with children and families is a deep belief that all behavior is communicating something that needs to be heard, understood and integrated. This requires a space for children to feel safe enough to be completely who they are. This is beautifully done through a child-centered play therapy approach.

For 17 years I have worked with children, adolescents and families in a variety of settings. This includes community mental health, Housing and Human Services, home-based, day treatment centers and work in other countries.

I am trained and/or have studied the following modalities in my work: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Parent Child Psychotherapy & I am currently becoming certified in Synergetic Play Therapy ™ .

While the focus of my practice is play therapy with kids (ages 3-12), I also have training & experience working with the infant/parent dyad, adolescents and women experiencing Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMAD’s). I am a trained prenatal yoga and vinyasa yoga teacher. I am also trained as a birth doula offering support to families in the birthing process.
